We are excited to host the annual SCCCHE Spelling Bee! We hope that you take this chance to experience everything that the SCCCHE Spelling Bee has to offer. It is a great opportunity for your child(ren) to practice their public-speaking skills as well as emphasizing the spelling techniques that they have been learning throughout their years in school.
The program is going to look a little different this year. We have made changes to structure our spelling bee in much the same way as the Scripps National Spelling Bee. This provides a consistency from bee to bee and helps the children (and parents) become more familiar with the “standardized” rules that most bees follow. In restructuring this program, we are anticipating that it eases the flow of the bee and reduces any misunderstandings that can arise. [click here] to view the SCCCHE Spelling Bee Rules. PLEASE REVIEW THESE RULES WITH YOUR CHILDREN BEFORE THE SPELLING BEE.
The SCCCHE Spelling Bee consists of a separate bee for each grade level K-8. There will be one winner from each grade level who will receive a medal; and all participants will receive a ribbon. The participants of the SCCCHE Spelling Bee will be eligible to compete in a larger spelling bee in St. Louis, where its winner will advance to the St. Louis Post Dispatch Spelling Bee. The winner from the Dispatch Spelling Bee will then advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. This is an exciting opportunity for our children! However, since not all children want to advance to the larger bees, there is no obligation that requires them to go beyond the SCCCHE Spelling Bee.
Please note that the attire at the spelling bee should be consistent with the Modesty Guidelines as defined by SCCCHE.
