What is the Master’s Lyceum??
A Lyceum is a hall for lectureships or association providing public lectures on science, math, art or literature. The Master’s Lyceum began in Fall of 2003 as a gift from the Lord to allow homeschooling parents with special interests, training, and abilities to share those talents with the children and parents in our group. Master’s Lyceum is an enrichment to our existing home schools. In addition to classroom enrichment, the Master’s Lyceum provides Christian fellowship and networking opportunities for moms and children alike. Since we are a Christian organization, classes are taught from a Biblical perspective and prayer is a part of our class day.
The Master’s Lyceum is not designed to take the place of parents educating the children at home, but to provide an opportunity to broaden the opportunities and interests of our children. Master’s Lyceum is not a school!
Many of our teachers are paid professionals, degreed in their fields, many are moms and dads from our group with a special interest, talent, or ability given by God, All classes are subject to scrutiny by the organizers of the Master’s Lyceum. All teachers must sign a statement of faith, and must agree to the teacher guidelines and responsibilities set forth. Since this is an all volunteer organization, your cooperation, assistance and communication are vital for the continuation of this program.
Typically classes meet from shortly after Labor Day until the Friday before Thanksgiving in the fall and usually begin mid-February, ending the last week of April in the spring. We normally have 4 class periods and an hour lunch break (30 minutes to play, then 30 minutes to eat). Families can choose which hours they would like to come and are certainly not required to stay all day.
Master’s Lyceum does a ‘free to volunteer’ policy- meaning volunteering in the program is not required for attendance at this time. However, please keep in mind that this is an all volunteer program and cannot function without everyone prayerfully considering where God would have them help. Options for volunteers include class helpers (we call them proctors), clean up crew, set up crew, study hall monitors, hallway monitors, nursery (for teachers and volunteers) helpers, prayer moms, and registration assistance.
Registration requires that members read and adhere to the statement of faith and ensures that everyone is aware of the Biblical basis on which decisions and policies are made.
What does Master’s Lyceumcost?
Cost (not including possible individual class fees) to attend is $10.00 per family, per semester. These funds are used to make copies and purchase administrative material, and playground equipment- things like sidewalk chalk, balls, jump ropes, etc. Cost for individual classes vary and are set by the individual teacher. There are usually a few scholarships available, so if your family would like to attend but it is a financial hardship, please talk to Julie Harrison.
